We have a Camray 3 oil boiler that is 14 years old. It has started to leak at the bottom of the boiler. We have been told that it is the water jacket? but the leak is not constant! It seems to leak less when it is on. It can go a week or more without leaking and then leak for a an hour or so and stop. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I would say that its impossible to say over the internet where the leak is coming from! But as the water jacket is full of water then that does sound like a strong contender!

If you really distrust a competent boiler engineer who has given you that diagnosis then you could always engage another!

I would have a very close look at the boiler connections and bleed point.

If you have any issues again in the future you could always consult a Leak Detection expert, I just linked you to a company that covers the whole of the UK. They work with local plumbers but basically help you find the leak in a non-invasive way. Theyre the guys you call when a plumber lets you down.
Dreadful company, stay away at all costs
