Hi all

Noticed this morning that our toilet has been leaking, not sure how long for (but we don't think for very long), and that the water has made large wet marks on the ceiling below.

The water is patchy on the ceiling, and has caused the wallpaper (on the side walls) in a couple of spots to bubble. I've stopped the leak by turning off the water to the cistern.

My question is, how do I know how badly the ceiling has been damaged, and whether or not I need to get it replaced - I've attached a couple of pictures...

Thanks

J

look under the floor and see what state the upper surface of the plaster is. you may find the paper has rotted or curled away, and the plaster might be crumbly. Taking up the floor will also allow it to dry out quickly with fresh cool air and reduce the risks of mould and rot.

If you don't touch it it might stay in place for a long time.

If you poke it, it might go like mine...

Let it dry then paint it with oil based undercoat and see how it looks. You'll never match the Artex if you repair it.
