Just fitted a new close coupled toilet from q and b.

I can stop it leaking from where where the cistern attaches to the pan:

I'm getting drips seaping down the thread, I assume it's getting in where the metal nut at the top is against the metal washer.

Should I be tighting ALL nuts as tight as they can go? Those cone shaped rubber washer really get squashed the more I tighten and I'm frightened of breaking them

as long as the nuts are tight...you can see the rubber inner washer squeezing down...then the leak is normally from the doughnut

seen this many times on these type of cisterns where the bolts go through the cistern
you'll find the water is getting in between the metal washer and conical washer then running down the thread.
easyest way i've found to seal them is to put some clear silicone in the cistern base holes and then tighten the nut.

If the water is getting in between the metal washer and conical washer, then surely putting silicone in the holes at the bottom of the cistern wouldn't actually stop that happening?

thats what i do fill the hole with clear silicone and do it up and it stops the water running down the thread.
