Hi,

Really need some help and advice. My boiler needed refilling and I wondered why so I did a quick google and it said I might have a leak.

Checked all the rads and the one in the living room was leaking, again did a search to see if I could stop it but I can’t seem to find anywhere what type of valves I have!?!

Could anyone help identify them and how to try and stop the leak. It looks like both ends have the same valve.

Thank you.

They look like lockshield valves, you may be able to repack the gland, failing that you may need new ones.

Thanks for the fast reply on a Sunday, I have watched loads of videos on the gland nut but I don’t really see where that is on these values. Also turning them clockwise opens the valve and it leaks more, is that meant to happen?

Not normally meant to happen, but can since you have a leak. Personally I would replace them. 3/4” lockshield valves with 15mm inlet tails is what you want.

Thanks, I wouldn’t even know where to start, how much do you think that might cost?

Also, in the mean time any other ideas on how to stop the leak? Any way I could sit off just that radiator? I worried to touch the other value as it’s the same, don’t want a leak the other end as well. Thanks.

Closing the valve with a spanner may stop the leakage. Replacing the valve/s is really what you need to do.
