My stopcock under the sink is leaking.
Had to use it yesterday to repair a leak on the heating pipes. When we turned it back on it started to leak from around the top of the tap. We have tried tying a rag round it in the hope that it will stop (wishful thinking I think).
Can anyone tell me if this is something that I can sort out myself quite easily or how much it is likely to cost for a plumber to call.
It is quite difficult to get to which doesn't help :(

It sounds like the 'O' ring but it's usually easier to replace the whole thing.

You have to switch off the supply at the stopcock out on the pavement, but they don't always seems to switch off fully. Try it before you disconnect it.

Thanks Joe. Will have a look but I think our stopcock in the street turns off all our block of houses (built 1930).

try gently tightening the gland nut (turn clockwise)- at the top of the stopcock immediately below the handle
