johnd - Yes the pipes are definitely dry, I have read on here and myself experienced difficulties with water left in pipes in the past.

I now have the solder mat £5 and all I need to do the job. I have done joints in difficult locations previously using aluminium etc to shield it and done a fair bit of soldering with successes and not so good on some occasions. But this time I wanted to get advice from you chaps before just launching into what I think might be right.
And, even as a very keen DIYer I recognise my limitations on certain things and do get tradesmen in for those jobs; but I will do this one, I'm almost there. As said, the most difficult and tightly located joints can be done before putting the pipe run assembly back in place.
