I tried closing an isolator valve which started leaking heavily through the shaft where you put the screwdriver through. It stops leaking when it's opened. The embossed arrow on the body is pointing against the flow. Will it be ok if i refit it the right way around or is it knackered?

Yep it's knackered, this is a very common problem with these valves, most plumbers hold their breath when they have to turn them off

As said use a lever valve or one of these.
better quality than those ball-o-fix valves

Ballofix - like Hoover - is a generic term. It's used incorrectly for all isolating valves.
Not all vacuum cleaners are Hoover, just as not all isolating valves are Ballofix.

Get a real Ballofix and you get a 5 year guarantee.
