Hi,

We moved into a house and the previous owner put in a new flat roof. However, this has started to leak. There is pooling of water (not running off) on the flat roof, and on the ceiling in the room below there are damp brown spots appearing.

Is there anyway of repairing this or is it a over haul? It is only 5 months old!

Thanks.

The ponding is not in itself a problem, but it can lead to premature failure of the felt.

Unless there are obvious holes or tears, then felt can only leak at the laps or seams.

Brush all the water off and have a look for anything obvious.

Seal any poor joints or cuts in the felt with something like Acrypol.

The only way to stop the ponding, it to take off the felt and deck and increase the fall with some new furring strips, then relay the deck and re-felt. Or if the guy has used thin boards, then these may be sagging, in which case you need new decking boards
