We have 2 leaking radiators. Both are leaking from the ball shaped part at the top of the radiator (one side only). The upstairs radiator is slowly leaking something that is wet and brown. The "ball" on the other radiator is totally covered in what looks like a crystalised, slightly greasy, dark yellow substance which I have found patches of on the floor. Can we fix these things ourselves?

We had a new boiler installed 18 months ago and at the time they treated the central heating system with something I can't remember the name of. This is the only work we have had done.

As Kev said: replace them.

Your installer did a pizzpoor job. He should have cleaned the system thoroughly, but didn't.
Get this sorted asap, as it will kill your boiler and your rads.

Replace all the rads  the balls are the tappings on a back tapped radiator...the leaking deposits are the inhibitor weeping out from behind the washers that the vent/plug screw onto- hence the crystalized deposit
