Just got in from work to find the above boiler banging like mad. Pressure had dropped so 'other half' decided to top it up. However, she didnt turn off the filling loop so water was exploding througth the pressure valve outside.

I've turned it off and released the pressure from a drain off, now back to 1 bar.

Switched it on to find its really leaking. THe leaK is not coming from the valve with the red cap, but from one of the pumps. This boiler has 2 pumps and its leaking from the one on the far right (manual says DHW pump).

Why has this happened and how can i fix it, please...

Mick

the pump casing/washer has split, probably due to running the boiler near enough dry

No easy fix I am afraid

Needs to be changed and I would advice you dont use it untill it is done

sorry

How would the boiler run dry. Pressure has always been at approx 1 bar. It had only dropped a little before my wife decided to top it up and left the filling loop open?

Couldnt the vibration /banging (it was making quiet a racket) loosened something or loosened it off an o ring ??

However, if you think it needs a complete unit then so be it. Any idea of the cost / part number.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

The reason for the leak will have been the high pressure forcing the water past the rubber o ring behind the pump and due to the leak being started it will not now stop unless pump is removed and o rings replaced.... or as the previous poster has said the plastic housing my be cracked.

Either way its not an easy job and the pumps can be a nightmare to come out.

Worcester or BG would be best as you will get a fixed price repair. The pumps are pretty pricey.!

Oops Sorry I read that you lost all the pressure I do Apologise

listen to Superduper

:)

Reason for loss of initial pressure is the seal on the DHW pump had failed, your missus noticed drop and topped up the pressure inadvertantly leaving filling loop partially open, thus pressure rose and PRV came into play releasing to outside.

You will need to replace DHW pump seals, I would also suggest replacing seals to CH pump at the same time and check PRV is seating correctly.
