Please help,

I have a leak from the air/water(?) vent located at the very top left hand side of my boiler (Potterton RS40). The vent sticks out at a right angle from the large copper pipe entering/leaving the boiler.

I'm not sure what the valve is for but notice air occasionally hissing out of it straight after I refilled the system from having fitter a new radiator. Water started seeping from around the seal of this vent and is now dripping quite a bit onto the floor. Have I over filled the header tank?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

It may be one of these

called a safety valve, will need a new one fitting or if the pipe rises continuosly up to your header tank with no drops down in pipework from level of valve, plug it off with

1/2 bsp or 3/4 black iron plug

may also be auto air vent
