My sink is leaking both at the point where the basin joins the waste and where the trap meets the waste arm.

The waste pipe moves around considerably when knocked-does it need replacing?

And where the trap meets the waste arm-is this likely to be a washer replacement job? Furthermore, the waste arm does not have a thread on it-it seems to just sit in the trap. Is this normal?

Cheers.

Go to a plumbers merchant and buy a new waste and trap for less than a tenner and fit .

Job done. :D

Thanks-will do so tomorrow. When I buy a basin waste, will this screw directly into the existing pipe between the waste and the trap?

There is no pipe between the 2.

You screw the waste to your basin / sink and then screw the trap onto it.

From the trap you insert your waste pipe and voila. ;)

Read the FAQs for basin leaking first if you are fixing the basin. ;)
