Hi all,

Hope someone can help, I would like to install led down lights in my kitchen but the joist depth is only 90mm do I need to use fire rated or can I use mains 240 which are smaller in depth.

If you have a shallow void you require fitting that will fit in the void there are a number of products on the market that will allow for shallow voids. You can go either way with 240V or 12V the 12V will require the voltage to be stepped down from mains 240V, and a driver installed.

Some down lights come as a complete composite unit of driver/fitting/lamp and are compact enough to fit into shallow voids.
Fire rating would depend on the requirement of it and whether the compartment requires it. In generally go belt/braces if there are living areas above and that the location below is one which heat would be often used.
