If the LED is rated as 12 volt AC ( it has in built current limiting ) then YES.
If rated 12 DC then the supply from the transfomer will need to be rectified.
But running an LED on un-smoothed DC rectified from an AC source will produce light with a distinct 100 Hz flicker. This can be a cause of migrane in susceptible people. It can cause some un-wanted visual effects when objects illuminated by the LEDs are moving across the field of vision or the eye moves quickly.
Most "" LED "" lamps sold to the domestic market are complete fittings with, as part of the fitting, all the necessary control gear to control voltage and current to the light emitting diodes that the true LEDs
And you're still going to have the insurmountable problem that 2" diameter lights are too small to be of any use whatsoever in actually lighting up a room.
There are good lighting units using LED as the light source. But they are not cheap as they have optical diffusers to spread the spot source into a wider light source.
