I stopped using MS office 2000 this year! I only used word to compose the odd letter and excel to do my accounts.

Now fully back in business! Information on the outlook-classic and hotmail (or any ms mail) combo are extremely inconsistent. But it turned out to be straightforward.
Add any ms operated mail via "File > Info > Add Account". Then enter email, press "connect", follow by password and the rest is automatically taken care of. Added account doesn't appear until outlook is restarted.
What you end up with is an imap-like arrangement in Outlook for each account added.
Only during account adding, the following rules are needed for people who use firewall:
Allow (UWP App) "Your account"
Port 443 TCP Outbound and associated response
Allow svchost.exe
IP: 20.190.0.0 - 20.190.255.255 Port 443 TCP Outbound and associated response
IP: 40.126.0.0 - 40.126.255.255 Port 443 TCP Outbound and associated response
The IPs are likely to be geographically dependent on the location of installation.
At all times, allow "outlook.exe"
Ports 143 443 465 587 993 995 TCP Outbound and associated response

You can still get the classic non subscription desktop version, Office 2024 with a one off lifetime licence, from MS shop and elsewhere.

maybe i am too late, but i would suggest LibreOffice. it is free and open source. i have not encountered any problems with it yet and i have been using it for years.
I can fully agree that LibreOffice is good. They also have a very good online site where you can get answers to any problems. My version of MS Word went tits-up some months ago and I didn't fancy paying for a new one, so I thought I'd try LibreOffice. Definitely recommend it.
I was a creature of habit, so said the manager I once worked for. I don't like change. Familiarity gives me a sense of comfort. Despite the increased spying activity, which I block where I can, I am happy with the new office and outlook - everything just looks and feels so familiar and works. The price paid was acceptable.

I'm late to the party but I purchased a deal like this (£9.98) from Groupon a few weeks ago and it was fine. The installation was seamless and the key worked no problem. New Outlook installed no problem too.
Check that the version being sold includes future updates. Some don't.

I could have gotten it for £7 if I didn't mind a little increased risk. But going with a seller having high proportion of positive views meant the chance for hassle was lower. It's the first time I bought office as I always had free access in the past. So, £13 per lifetime was not bad.
If it works, I don't care for updates. I have blocked microsoft for more than 5 years and have been very happy. Haven't had a single problem since.
