I'm looking to paint anaglypta where the present paint is badly shaded with nicotine. A retired decorator recommended Nu White by Leyland or Johnson's but I can't find any mention of it anywhere.
Has this brand been superseded or is he just mistaken?

I have never heard of it.

Nicotine will bleed through emulsion.

You can use Zinsser AllCoat (solvent based) or BIN (shellac/alcohol based). A cheaper option would be oil based undercoat but you may need to wait days before applying the new emulsion. Am even cheaper option would be to wash the paper with sugar soap but it can be difficult to do that on anaglypta.

Johnstones Stainaway is a waterbased emulsion that claims to cover nicotine. It is about £70 for 5L (tinted).
