Hi Guys...........just starting to renovate 120year old farmhouse....floors presently a mixture of rotted wood and tiles on ash. I will be taking the floor level down to accommodate hard core, insulation and the slab itself.
A couple of questions:-

....What depth is reccommended for the slab (area of each room is circa 16sq mtrs)
....Is it wise to avoid having to apply a screed finish by giving the concete a smooth floated finish?

Any thoughts would be welcome

4 inch is normal for a floor slab.

No need for a screed if you float the slab flat. That has to be a good reason.

Appreciate that advice......was kinda hoping I could get away with 4"..........at what stage would you float the floor.....when it's gone off or when pouring the concrete??
