I fitted a new light switch to a room last night.

It is silver plated, it relaced a plastic one.

I undid the earth that was connected to the metal box in side the wall, and reattcahed to the light plate itself.

Is this correct.

I am very new to all this and so will probably come on here alot and ask for little titbits, sorry in advance if it gets a little tedious.

But i want to ensure i aint going to kill myself or anyone else who visits the house.
thanks

Shouldn't the metal backbox be earthed too?
i.e. a small earth cable shoudl link the front switch to the back box.

Its not absolutely necessary as long as the metal back box has one fixed lug.

You will probably find its difficult getting more than 1 wire into the terminal on the switchplate. An option is to keep the earth wires (from the cables) connected to the backbox earth terminal and run a single wire from there to the front plate earth.

Yes, that's what I thought I said.
Some of mine have been done like that.
