Good afternoon,

I am replacing an old dimmer switch with a standard on/off toggle switch. I am slightly confused by what I am seeing. I doesn't take much. Just looking for reassurance.

The wiring as it stands currently on the back of the dimmer is:

Single black wire - Com
Single Red wire - L1
Earth

My new switch contains 3 connections....
Terminal 1 - "In"
Terminals 2 & 3 - "Out"
Earth

How would you connect the new switch with the existing wires?

Red to terminal 1
Black to terminal 2
Earth conductor to earth terminal on the switch ( assuming it's metal and has an earth terminal)

Red to terminal 1
Black to terminal 2
Earth conductor to earth terminal on the switch ( assuming it's metal and has an earth terminal)

Thanks. I think the original setup confused me. I would have thought Red would be Com and Black would be L1 in the dimmer.

On your new switch it doesn't really matter ,all it does is connect the two to each other. So black to 1 and red to 2 would work just the same.
