Hi,

How do profesional decorators always get the mains sockets and light switches fitting flush to the wall (touching all the way around) once they have finished painting a wall. Mine always seem to touch 95% of the way around but there is always a bit where there is a bit of space. Is there a secret ?

Thanks,
Andy

It basically comes down to how flat the plastering around the back box is as to how flush the faceplate will sit when reattached.
I check before removing the cover to see if there are any areas that need attention (sanding or filling) and sort that first to ensure it will sit flush when put back. Some decorators will fill any gaps with caulk and just cut in around the plates without bothering to remove them. This is usually ok to look at but when an electrician, or the next decorator, comes along and removes the front it can lead to damage around the socket which then takes double the time to rectify.
