Hi all , recently the upstairs landing light stopped working , no bang , no blown bulbs,no tripped mcb switch ,nothing . I have checked the bulbs , the fitting by replacing it , the switch up stairs , the switch downstairs both work when fitted into another circuit , so I am assuming it must be the wiring at fault . I have checked the loft lighting cables for rodent damage but to no avail .

Can anyone advise any suggestions , or a way to test the wiring circuit in a simple fashion . i do not have a multimeter but do have an electricians screwdriver(but no Idea how to use it !!) .
If anyone can help or suggest websites where i could learn how to do this I would be very grateful .

many thanks in advance Glenn

electricians do not use "those screwdrivers" they are worse than useless.

since by your own admitance have no idea what you are doing, and electricity has no prejudices (it kills any one) I suggest you call an electrcian, i would like to see you post on here again.

tip, when calling dont take the first one, and dont call one of them"emergency" people

good luck

Thanks Breezer ,

Is there anyway of testing the wires so i can figure out which part of the lighting circuit may be faulty ?

cheers

Glenn

yeah there are ways and means of testing but its sounds unlikelly you will have the correct equipment or knowledge to do so (not been harsh but thats how your post comes across)

i would reiterate breezers advice and get a spark in.

and throw that neon screwdriver in the bin! ;)

Thanks Guy's ,
I was wondering which part of the circuit was faulty that was all ?

But thanks all the same for your help

Cheers

Where the fault may lie depends upon your set-up.

If you have one circuit for up & downstairs, where the feed goes to that light, it may be broken.

Have you installed any new light fittings or switches recently?

If you have a strapper fault, or a faulty rocker or dimmer switch, that could cause it not to work.

Strappers are the wires that link L1 & L2 terminals of the up/down switches.

However, if you are unfamiliar with electricity and uncertain how to proceed, it may be best for now to call a pro.
