e.g.

CU -> L1 -> L2 -> L3 -> L4 -> L5 -> END

If I want three of the five to run parallel lamps, e.g at L1, the switch also controls L1a, L1b, L1c, such that the circuit looks like :

Line in - L1 -> L1a ->L1b -> L1c -> END

(and similarly L2 and L3 do the same),

Apart from the usual considerations for voltage drop, cable CCC, and overall current on circuit, is there anything else to consider?

There are many things to consider in the designing and the method of installing an electrical circuit.
But the basics are there, you need also consider the inspection, testing and certification side and this looks like a new circuit so the legal implication of notifying the work. Not to mention Zs and disconnection times.

That is as clear as mud

Try again using S1--- S5 for the switches and L1---L5 for the lamps

S1 controls L? L?

S2 controls L? L?

if more complex switching required then

S1 and S2 control L? L?

etc etc......

Yes, got that, really meaning in respect of running the parallel lamps.

OK, left all the switches out because of inability to draw them in easily. S1, S2, etc controls L1, L2, etc.

S1 is wired up to L1 at the ceiling rose. I am simply running off of L1 to L1a, etc. in parallel to L1, which means S1 would control L1, L1a, L1b, L1c.

As I understand your design, there is not a problem running parallel lighting by the use of the the same switch line, providing you have accounted for the sizing of protective devices in accordance to load and cable sizing and voltage drop.
