Hi there,

I am really an amateur in terms of things like this. I want to replace the top lighting in the kitchen of my apartment (the current one, see image, circled - is VERY ugly) and I want something cool & try, dangling at around the same length, but with a bit more chic. I just don't now what light to buy that will be bright enough to light the kitchen from the top.

There's an awful lot of these filament bulbs you see these days, but they aren't so bright and are more for 'cool' aesthetics, rather than a top light. Any help would be greatly appreciated in terms of a suitable lampshade / bulb idea that works here. Thanks

It's an industrial look and a flourescent hung on chains, matches that look perfectly, as well as being practical and economical.

I agree that light is awful and is completely wrong, lighting fixtures can make have a massive impact on how a room looks, something bigger and further away form the kitchen is in order, perhaps along these lines: https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://distinctdesigns.co.uk/cdn/shop/products/distinct-designs-loft-vintage-pendant-pulley-lights-made-of-black-painted-iron-to-enhance-the-modern-industrial-style-of-your-home-decoration-lighting.jpg?v=1558862577&tbnid=zipB0xEhLXeyrM&vet=12ahUKEwiLzd-29PCBAxV3nCcCHcorBg0QMyhAegUIARDLBA..i&imgrefurl=https://distinctdesigns.co.uk/products/loft-vintage-pendant-pulley-lights-made-of-black-painted-iron-to-enhance-the-modern-industrial-style-of-your-home-decoration&docid=wYjNzEWIOblxdM&w=800&h=670&q=industrial look pendant lights uk&ved=2ahUKEwiLzd-29PCBAxV3nCcCHcorBg0QMyhAegUIARDLBA

It looks to have been a not very well thought out kitchen area with that massive extractor fan that's twice the size of the hob, you could pop some lights in the soffit above it maybe, if the extractor pelmet was glass? And then a few more in that weird shelf bit above the right hand kitchen units, that would get the kitchen work surfaces lit properly. Then having a bright light for the pendant becomes less of an issue and would allow the pendant to move further into the room nearer to where the table is.

Just my thoughts.
