Hi all...i am doing a project and involves using existing lighting ceciling rose to run to new wall lights....so what I need to know is .do I use a 1.5 mm cable from ceciling rose to new wall lights with new switch...or do I use existing 2.5 wire with 1.5 for the fitting of the lights with new light switch..

If the light circuit is protected by a 6A MCB or similar, then 1.5mm exceeds the possible load on the circuit.

However, if you have 2.5mm for some reason then you need to check how this goes back to your consumer unit. As long as your cable exceeds the circuit protection then its fine.

You just need to look at the consumer unit and see what the rating is of the MCB that isolates the circuit

You'll not get 2.5mm² conductors into a ceiling rose, or the terminals of most light fittings.
1mm² cablwe will be plenty if the lighting circuit is protected by a max 6A MCB/fuse.

How/why is the ceiling rose coming into play?
Will the wall lights be on a separate switch to the (existing) ceiling light?

...

The ceciling rose is staying where it is but will be covered up with a dropped ceciling with plaster board ....so was gonna run the wire from the existing ceciling rose to be wall lights..
