Hi All,

Decorating my daughters bedroom and in a few areas the lining paper (under two coats of paint and two layers of wallpaper!) has torn. I've bought a roll of Erfurt red label 1200 grade lining paper. The largest area I may need to put this on is around 30cm x 30cm. Do I paste the back of it and let it soak in for 10 minutes? The idea is to cut it larger than I need and slice through it and the old lining paper at the same time to try and create the tightest join possible.

Cheers
Daz

There are instructions for that online and on the back of label.

Yeah.
Paste paper and give it 10 minutes to soak.
They recommend ready mixed paste but for the small area use whatever paste you have.
If you got any PVA or wood glue you can mix a bit in with the standard flake paste if you want as helps the stick

Thanks @Wayners for the reply. I'm a little confused though so maybe you can advise. As I intend to cut through both this new lining paper and the old with the idea of removing the old paper for the new one to take its place, how can I do this given that the old lining paper is thick and a bugger to scrape off (there's actually more than one layer of paper too I think)?

You stick some new linings paper to the wall with masking tape.
Big enough to cover with some overlap.
Using a ruler or something straight, Use a sharp blade to cut through the new lining paper and the several layers of old paper.
Get the old paper off to the cut mark.
Use the lining paper as a template to cut a few more pieces of lining paper to stack to get the thickness.
Stick them on.
When dry us some filler around edge.
180 grade sand.

Some artistic licence required but you get the idea
