Hi all,

I have a chimney in my backroom and I want to open it up. I don't intend to fit any stove burner and will block the chimney with a balloon or some other device.

I'm in the process of stripping everything back and, as it's my first time, I'm super nervous about the position on the lintels.

Do they appear safe? Last thing I'd want is there to be issues with the chimney breast. It's a semi detached property and it is on the shared wall.

I have attached an image of the chimney in my front room which was cleared out as a reference point. I've also attached the most up to date image of the chimney in my back room.

There are also some bricks in the middle which look like they need to come out (when comparing the images...)?

I guess I'm new to this and very nervous! So just looking for some reassurance and any helpful tips.

Thanks guys
Alex

Hi all,

Just going to give this post a shameless bump!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Alex

The top image does not look as well built as the lower one, and the lintels and bricks not so well bonded or cantilevered. It may need a bit of work, and that case may as well put a couple of longer lintels across
