Hi I am fitting a Bosch dishwasher for my friend and I have done them before but there is one thing I am not sure about. A lot of machines now have a funny box on the water fill hose at the tap connection.

What I need help with is do these need to go in any direction in particular? The diagrams are one of these all pictures and no words ones things that you have to figure out what they mean by the pictures (a bit like the IKea construction plans you get in flat packs with big X's over the wrong way to do it).

Most of the pictures show it with the tap above so that it hangs under the tap but there is one diagram which may be showing this box in any direction except above the tap, I am not sure about it.

The reason I ask is because I already put the isolating tap in under the sink in a horizontal plane when I did some plumbing for them before, ready for when they got a dishwasher and I put it fairly low in the kitchen unit so it will be a big palava now to come from above into this box, it would be much easier for me to stay horizontal now.

What are these boxes anyway, I am sure I was told before and have forgotten, something to shut water off if there's a fault or something?

So do they need to hang from the tap or can they come from left or right too?

Any help appreciated.
