We recently knocked through to an existing extension to make an open plan space.

We're now deciding on flooring, however there's an unfortunate height difference of around 45mm-50mm between the two floor areas. The contractors who did the knock through added a ramp between these levels, however we're considering LVT click flooring (once ply is laid) and unsure of the best approach.

What would you do....?

  • Keep ramp? If so, how would LVT be fitted? Assume a threshold would be needed at top and bottom of ramp?
  • Keep ramp and install carpet on ramp and in extension area? I assume this would be easier than attempting to fit LVT on the ramp?
  • Create a step? Would a 50mm step be too much of a trip hazard?
  • Leveling floor by reducing floor level in extension? Assume this would be a major job in terms of replacing or trimming all joists in extension area (3mx3m) from 150mm to 100mm?
  • Levelling floor by raise floor in house to match extension = not really an option due to the impact this would have on everything else in ground floor.

Anything else that I should consider?
Thanks.
