Hi,

We have an electrical fireplace which sits up against a dot and dab wall (our garage is the other side). Behind the fireplace is a capped gas pipe, I need to trace where this goes before I can start my false chimney breast (for our new TV).

A stud/metal detector are very hit and miss from the reviews I've read and obviously using magnets wont work on copper pipes, so what's the best way?

I've made a small hole near the pipe poking out of the plasterboard and it seems the 'dab' has been put all around the pipe making it difficult to see which way it goes. There's no skirting board so I can see it doesn't go straight downwards. Other than making the plastboard look like swiss cheese I'm at a loss what to do next.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks!

Figured it must go up, so made 3 small holes and followed it all the way to the ceiling.

Job done and cost nothing. :)

Cheers fellas.
