Hi All,

I am planning to board part of my loft over the weekend for some extra storage and need some advice on whether i need to cross batten or not, screws etc

I plan to use P5 18mm chip boardand my joists are 3x2" would these be strong enough to support the board or do need to cross batten? if so what size of wood should I use?

The insulation in the loft is very thick but should squeeze down if i cut into narrow strips between the joists is this ok to do?

Planning on using 1.5" screws to secure the board are these ok to use or should I use longer?

ANy help greatly appreciated:)

what unsupported span and what centres are the joists
dont buy any materials untill you work out the load you can safely add!!

Before doing in work in your loft. Make sure you have Knee protection. The action of being on your knees and twisting your body 90 degrees cause a lot of damage.
A lot of people suffer from bad knees after laying loft flooring.

Not forgetting face mask and gloves.
