Loft brace.... Can I remove ?

Hi, just wondering if anyone can tell me what this T shaped bracket is for and can it be removed if its strengthened elsewhere. It is only nailed in at all 3 ends with 1 nail in each end. It has a bit of a wobble to it, so isn't being pulled by any weight. The two pieces are held together by a notch cut in each and top one sits into the other. Hopefully this is enough info but I'll stick a pic up as well. Any info is much appreciated guys.

if you remove this I would put some bracing higher up in the roof with plywood triangles screwed to joists use 3/4 ply build up in pieces that you can get through loft access bring them down to a height that will clear head high
