Hi all. My house is approaching 50 years old and has a plastic cold water tank in the loft which is definitely more than 28 years old and could be as old as the house. How long do these tanks last? Do they fail with age and should I replace it? We had a new boiler fitted 3 years ago so don't want to change the set up for a combi boiler or pressurized hot tank.

Only issue I know of with plastics is certain types degrade when exposed to the elements, particularly the UV in sunlight, but anything internal, underground etc should be absolutely fine. Recommendation is for external plastic products to be painted with gloss paint to provide weathering protection anyway.
