Yes it is and the loft company did calcs (not seen them!). How bad is it to use slate instead of pad stones? They’re a highly rated local company that loads of my friends have used and been happy with so hoping it’s all ok (hoping I’m just spending too much time googling everything!)
Demand to see the engineers drawings then, you paid for them, do they even exist? Maybe all your friends don't have a clue about what steels should bear on.
I think it’s just calcs, not drawings! I only had basic architect ones done and they said they’d sort the rest.
All depends what load the steel is carrying and what it is bearing onto. Plausible for it to be supported by the existing brickwork with slate between to make up the spacing. Slate crushing strength between 70 - 200N/mmm2, your supporting brickwork wii probably have a compressive strength of 7-40 N/mm2 depending on bricks/ mortar/workmanship.ask the company what is the bearing of the steel and the assumed bearing capacity of the wall, all in N/mm2 and compare the 2. BC will have a view on things
