Hi,

I'm in very early stages of planning a loft conversion, have an se doing some drawings and calculations but have something bothering me already (sure there will be more to come!)

I have a mid terrace - staircase is going to be straight one from existing box room alongside gable/party wall. However looking at the regs the gable wall needs to be insulated - does this mean I will need to frame out wall in loft space down the staircase line and also frame out the existing first floor wall?

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers
Steve

Only above ceiling level but in order that your plasterboard runs flush down the stair this will inevitably mean framing out below ceiling level too.

Unless your neighbours have per chance already converted their loft! :p

Should your staircase be running up from a box room? Or is the room to become an extension of the 1st floor landing?
