The catch on our loft hatch broke so we have bought a replacement, same size and same make as the existing one but a different model as the existing one was old. We have removed the old hatch and the new one fits quite snugly but the issue we have is the door will not lose properly and lock. The only way we can make it shut and lock is by dropping the opposite end by about half an inch which obviously leaves a gap. How can I resolve this. Total novice so apologies if this appears an easy question to some.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

So when you put the surround in it fits snugly, when you put the door in and try to close it seems to catch on the front near the lock , it will close but the lock won’t turn fully. The only way to make it close would be to drop the surround at the opposite end by removing screws in the surround. If you remove all the screws and push the surround in with the door already in it fits but you can unlock it and open it but can’t re lock again.

You have obviously made the socket in the wrong place.
