Loft Insulation Improvements

Apologies if the content of this post has been repeated elsewhere

I installed fresh insulation in our loft last year but only one level of thickness from a standard roll. So probably between 5 to 10 cm deep. This fitted neatly in between the rafters. On top of the rafters I have fitted standard loft board as the storage space is comprehensively used.

My question is how can I improve the insulation in the loft without drastically changing this setup?

Would it be best to also place insulation in between the roof joists, to be held in place by plasterboard (for example) and if so what materials should I use and are there any potential issues with condensation/ventilation etc?

Lift the existing boards, fit 100 high sub battens on top of your existing ceiling joists at right angles, fit another layer of insultaion between those and then put your boards back down. Adding insulation at rafter level is pointless.
