loft insulation quick question

I have purchased some 100mm insulation and it is partially cut at 400mm and 600mm.

My joist are approx 500mm apart can I use the 600mm cut? and compress it into the 500 mm gap?

Once this is done I will insulate the other way using 200mm space blanket.
