Loft insulation

Hi there, long time lurker, but first post on here!

We live in a 150+ year old cottage that we want to make a little warmer/economical

In the loft there is the standard 4" of insulation between the joists which I'm wanting to increase. I know the reccomended depth is 270mm, but since the mineral wool comes in a choice of 170 and 200mm thicknesses, I'm wondering if there would be much advantage in going for the 200mm, taking it all up to 300mm total.
Or is the 270mm good enough?
There's about a £75 cost difference over the whole loft to have the extra 30mm.


And is wickes about the cheapest place to get rock wool insulation, or do the builders merchants do better deals?

wait a while for the diy sheds i got mine for £2 a roll ( 5.5m2) 200mm thick

Was that not on the old subsidies which have now expired?

the new green deals come out at the end of the month so may come down again
Out local b&q has massive amounts of the 200mm stuff
