Hi everyone,

A really simple question I think.

We're in the standard situation - we have no loft insulation but want storage space.

I know that PIR boards are expensive but I seem to get the same or better U values with 50/100mm boards. Can I just cut and place these on top of the plasterboard (for the ceiling below) and board into the joists?

Can anyone recommend which boards, I think xtratherm are cheaper than celotex but I am strugglign with which ones would do the job!

Cheers

Graham

Are you just looking to improve or are you wanting to comply to the recommendation to prevent heat loss.
Most loft joist are 100mm or less deep and this would really not get your heat loss down the the recommend guidelines. As you would require 270mm of rockwool or 175mm of pir board to achieve this, therefore the areas which you would want to board, the loft joist would require to be deeper/added to.

But to answer you question, they can be laid between the joists!
