In our house we have a loft access with a plastic hinged door that drops down when opened. I have been looking at loft ladders from wickes, around the £70 mark. Does anyone have any experience of them and are they easy to fit? Do they screw onto the wooden frame?

Depends which ones you have been looking at, generally they are fixed directly to the hatch frame work opening and some have a second contact to the hatch as well.

I have a sliding aluminium one that was very easy to fit, it is light. 3m ceilings so is the longer 3-part model. Being so light it is quite easy to push back up, unless I suppose you are short.

I think the folding wooden ones might feel more rigid, but they are heavier, so perhaps less easy to position.
