While the nut method does work it is still a good idea to gently file the end after the nut has been wound off to round of the flat end of the screw.
Some times the end of the raised part of the thread can be thin enough to distort or break off when the screw is used. This can cause the screw to jam in the back box.

But wouldn't this mean you have to carry some 3.5mm nuts and a file?
That sounds like it could get complicated, maybe a dremel is the best way after all?
