Your sink should have a 40mm waste and trap. 32mm is normally for basins which don't generally need an overflow connection.

This joint leaking it doesn’t seem to tighten all the way the plastic doesn’t seem the right fit ? It’s defo a 32mm probably old type

You might find that it will fit the new trap ok and the new trap will have a new seal. If the trap is for a sink then it will be 1 1/2" (40mm).

That isn't a usual fitting and may have been bespoke or it's one of these.

th

It's called an appliance trap adapter. It would be a suck it and see.
