I went to get a picture of a loop impedance tester, and found this 1724496580552.png in the past cheapest was around the £250 mark, which seemed a bit OTT for DIY use, now retired so even if I have the skills, testers are for DIY use.

The loop test is not the best 1724497129168.png it only shows 1 decimal place, most meters I have used show to 2 decimal places, but the plug in testers with loop pass at 1.9Ω so far better than them, and not much more money (£61.72) and also tests RCD's so it does seem to do what I need.

I got a insulation tester a few years ago for £35 which seems to work fine, VC60B.jpga VC60B, the readings match my mega, so seems OK, it does not have a low ohm range, but my old mega does, and I still have that, but wondered if anyone has already bought one and what they think of it.

There seems to be something odd (wrong?) about the claimed resolution for RCD tripping current, and the accuracy for that test (±3.3 mA for a 30mA RCD) seems pretty high.

Well got one, seems to work A1, sockets tested give the results expected, only problem I have is connecting it to my PC. A mini CD came with it, and it had three bits of software. The RCD one shows:-

Which seems fair enough, but Read data gets

I am sure it is me doing something wrong, and don't really need to upload anyway, so now back in the box, actually rather a nice carry case, until Christmas when my wife will officially give it to me. But needed to test it first.

Only tested the RCD sockets, as a long walk to reset with the RCBO's, but the loop impedance matches the readings when solar fitted, so all seems to do what it says on the packet, and for very little extra to what a plug in socket tester would cost.
