Hi

I live in an old house built in 1928, at the time of its conception the construction used was ahead of its time, we have cavity walls and dot and dabbed plasterboard walls.

Unfortunately a lot of these dots and dabs have come loose over time and so I can now rattle the boards.

I have tried fixing by drilling holes and screwing the boards back, however this only worked on 2 of 5 attempts. The brick work and mortar is on the shoddy side of things.

I thought about using expanding foam adhesive, but fear this may blow the boards.

Does anyone have any other ideas I could try?

Expanding foam would blow the boards, but the adhesive won't (or shouldn't); but you might have to keep an eye on it and press it back in, as some of the adhesive foams do expand more than others.

Bite the bullet and take it all off and get it redone with modern materials...

Thanks,

At present cost is a concern, aswell as time which seems to be a luxury at the moment. But I'm also concerned what else I may find taking it all off... Which will cost even more and take longer...

Sometimes ignorance is bliss..

Actually, you only want the hole you drill to be the size of the nozzle, otherwise it won't get forced sideways behind the plasterboard. The wall anchors are a good idea, but if you look on the cellotex website, they seem to use hammer fixings to fit insulated plasterboard directly to the wall, but in this case, maybe 60mm would be sufficient.
