Lost a lighting circuit - fault somewhere tripping MCB

My son and I expect every other electrician who has started up as a sole trader fell foul of the customer who was going to do some of the work. Any electrician needs to plan ahead so will give a time scale between visits for the work to be done. However often on returning work has not been done or has been done incorrect which leaves the electrician with a problem. Either he now does the work or he writes off the day as no other work clearly planned for that day.

Once caught out they all say never again. Or the next time it's a day rate arrangement. So if they agree to come a week on Wednesday and your not ready they still charge for the day. Day rate is also a problem no one works flat out all day. If paying by the job it does not matter how slow the electrician is but day rate the customer always seems to expect the electrician to work quicker.

For an electrician to work for a builder at day rate works, over time they develop a trust between them and both are looking at future work. Working for a private home owner rarely works.

You personally may be the best client anyone could wish for. But most electricians have been caught out and are simply not interested.
