also thanks to jeff for reverse circualtion theory, something that i have been contemplating myself.
Is this common? And would it be caused by one pipe being heavily blocked, thus making the water run round the other way as in the path of least resistance?
i wonder what would happen if both the flow and return have equal resistance?

Interesting fault and as yet I have not been able to think of any reasons for this.

But I will keep on thinking.

But would like to hear the results of the bucket test.

That can be done from a rad top if that has a 1/2 " tapping to which a tube can be adapted.

Sorry haven't read all your post just a quick thought I'd balance the system just close all l/shields and when cold open l/shield just a bit until you feel rad getting hot only a turn should do it just stops rads getting robbed
