I think my programmer has died, it has no active display or LEDs, but my connected boiler is lit up as normal and presumably functional.

This seems weird to me as they're powered through the same mains plug, and from what I can see the programmer is just a few switches and a timer, so I don't get what could have gone wrong. It was working fine a few days ago, any ideas of what I can look at?

You need to check whether it is actually getting power. Do you have a multimeter?

I don't unfortunately but from what I can tell my boiler is powered by the same mains plug and that has power. I'm wondering if I can just bridge two of the wires on the wall mount to turn the heating on as a temporary fix

Just try turning it off for sat 1/2 hr turn back on & re set instructions should be on back of drop down flap or maybe just needs new battery they sometimes do funny things when flat.

You can't assume it's getting power, maybe a loose connection somewhere. You could link out the backplate to get it to work but it depends on the existing connections.

The back up battery is not user changeable!

In any case a flat battery only looses the time when the power is lost.

Its unusual for them to fail completely with no display like that.

You can remove from backplate and check connections but without a meter to check power, visually checking is only half the job.

A replacement is not too expensive and the seven day model is better for most people. They can easily be replaced like for like on the existing backplate.

Cheers all for the replies.

Ok I'll try pick up a replacement, does look like a pretty old box. I'll get a multimeter while I'm there.

Better to do the meter check BEFORE you buy the new timeclock in case there is no supply to it!

I was thinking I'll try to return it if no dice, not sure how the weather is down south but I'm pretty keen to take a punt on getting some heating tonight!

You can get heating by linking the live supply on backplate to the CH on connection!

I would always advise checking supply is correctly connected and live first though!

If you must do DIY repairs then you do need basic tools and test equipment!

Otherwise call a pro!
