We bought a brand new house 2 years ago with a lawn that looked great but was actually pretty lumpy. It has got worse since with lots of bumps and dips now making it more like a well used rugby pitch.

Is there anyway to get it nice and level or do I need to dig it up and start again (well I'll dig it up then get an expert to relay a new one).

It is possible to remove lumps & fill the hollows, it depends how bad the lawn is.
To remove bumps, use a spade cut slits turn back turf remove soil, replace lawn , firm down & water.
To raise hollows, you could add a mixture of sand, soil & peat to the hollow a small amount at a time the grass will grow though or do as for bumps but add material. I think if you do a google search you will find pictures of how to do it. I will have a look & post any relevant links.
