I am buying a house with an en suite that has a macerator en-suite. Does anyone have any experience of these. Noise? Blockages? Am unfamiliar with them so a bit of a sceptic.

What make / model?

It is always best to avoid these unless it is essential but sometimes there is no real alternative if additional sanitaryware is fitted.

They do create noise, which can cause annoyance of others when used at night, but that is subjective.

They are mechanical items which can fail and extra maintenance can be expected compared to a gravity system.

Most are however fairly reliable and do not cause much problem in the way of failures unless something is put down the loo which they are not designed to handle.

There are different types - some cannot handle solids.

The discharge pipe need to have solvent weld joints and not gasket ring seal type.

It is best not to have sole reliance on a macerator but as yours is in an en-suite presumably you would have use of another bathroom if the macerator does fail.
