I have a Main 30 HE Boiler which is approx. 2 years old.

I am having problems with the Central Heating, the DHW is working fine, but when the central heating is called the unit ignites for about 20 seconds then goes out, with no fault/failure lamps illuminated. If the DHW is asked for at this time the unit merrily ignites, but again 15 seconds after the hot water tap is switches off the boiler switches off.

Just thinking is this something an electrician could attempt to repair, myself, as regarding the gas safety its fine on the DHW side so should be safe and maybe just a switch ??

Thanks for any advice.

What external controls have you got?
Could be a control fault.

Drop the frontpanel of the boiler( after isolating power), disconnect what ever wires are in 1 and 2 (and make safe), and place a link wire in, and switch boiler back on to see if boiler fires or not.

Hi Linkyplump,

Tried the link but it does exactly the same, not sure if its relevant but the internal pump appears to keep on pumping water around the heating, even though the water is not getting heated.

I have also just tried disconnecting for fault finding two sensors on the CH feed pipe the pressure sensor and safety thermostat but they both reported faults on the facia when disconnected.

The diverter valve seems to be stuck in the DHW position.

Pcb, motor or just jammed!

Hi Lads

Thanks for your comments, but I think this is where the electrician bows out and gets a plumber involved
